Unfortunately they are not always available to collect certain casualties and we rely on volunteers based in and around Gloustershire and Wiltshire who can spare half a day or more a week to be 'On call' to collect animals for us. This requires your own transport as you will be bringing the casualty to us, however you can choose the area you can cover as to not travel long distances. Sometimes it is a case of meeting members of the public half way to collect casualties to save fuel and travel time.
There are many ways to volunteer to help Oak and furrows. If any of the below options interest you, please call the centre on 01285 862439 to arrange an initial meeting with one of our staff members.
Please be aware that any work with the animals in our care requires you to be over 14 years of age for insurance purposes and it also requires you to have an up to date tetanus vaccination.
At present we have two voluntary full time collection drivers. Between them, they can be on the road for hours at a time and bring in up to 20 casualties each a day.
We have alot of animals in our care at any one time, which in the mornings all need cleaning out and fresh food. The animals also need care through out the day and this is where our wildlife care assistant volunteers come in. This job can be quite repetitive, especially when we have 80+ hedgehogs in over the winter months.
This involves alot of cleaning and manual work, which can be quite hard work. You do not get alot of interaction with the animals as they are wild and we hope to keep them all this way so they can be released. However, you do get to see a range of wildlife up close which is very rewarding. The most useful time for us to have volunteers is in the mornings, however we do have evening shifts available in the summer months.

We are always grateful of people willing to donate their time to run fundraising events or ideas for us. This could be anything from running a stall at a local event, to tin shaking outside a super market for a day or even sponsorsed events. Any thing that could raise soe money for us would work!
