Ducklings

18/06/2011 -
At the time of year that we have an influx of orphaned, lost or abondoned ducklings of all sizes and ages, one group of ducklings currently staying at the centre are lucky enough to still be with mum.

The wild mallard decided to take up residence with some of our bigger orphaned birds staying in a pen outside. Here, she made a nest, layed her eggs and has now hatched out her ducklings!

Mum and ducklings have the run of the pen, which they were originally sharing with some young geese. The ducklings love getting into the pond, and huddling up underneath mum once the temperature starts dropping at night.

29/07/2011 -
The female mallard who took up residence willingly at Oak and Furrows with her ducklings is still here despite her ducklings being as big as her now! It is now becoming difficult to see mum in the group but in the picture below we think it is the second duck from the left!
