Volunteering
As a registered charity we rely on the help and support of our members and volunteers, you can give as little or as much time as you want, it will all be appreciated.
There are a few ways to volunteer:
Fund raising
We are always looking for people to source
fund raising events eg. running a stall at local fetes, village hall Christmas sales. You can collect a couple of boxes of goodies from us and a float and off you go.
Callout and collection drivers
This involves you in your car travelling around collecting either donated items or small wildlife casualties for us. You can cover as wide or small an area as you want to, and choose to be on for a specific day, weekends or to be called at anytime! Sometimes it is a case of meeting someone half way keeping the cost down on both sides. If you are on call for us you would be expected to drop everything a go when a call comes in and you will need a mobile phone as sometimes we will need to contact you when you are on the road. You will also need an up to date tetanus shot.
Wildlife care assistants
This is the muckiest form of voluntary work, it is hard work and can be repetitive, particularly in the winter when we may have 70 or 80 headgehogs in, all needing to be thoroughly cleaned every day.
We are always looking out for good cleaners, it is so important that the animals and birds in our care are kept clean and germ free, not only for their own good but in order to prevent the spread of bacteria and disease to other patients.
The most useful time to volunteer is in the mornings, this is when the majority of cleaning is done. Evening shifts are also available the time of which varies depending on the time of year and how busy we are, afternoon shifts tend to be for any left over cleaning out and is also when extra tasks are undertaken when we have enough people to do it, things like sorting out and stock taking, stripping out hosptial cages and cleaning behind, that sort of thing. Once again an up to date Tetanus shot is necessary.
If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to
contact us. We hope to hear from you soon.
